The pigeon drop scheme uses a little friendliness, mixes in some trust,adds a promise of a large sum of money. The victim gives a small amount as a good faith security deposit, In the expectation of a big return.But what really happens is the scammers make off with the good faith money, and the victim is left with nothing. CON GAMES Pigeon Drop A stranger approaches you about finding a large sum of money and wants to share it with you. The catch is, you need to put up “good faith” money. Ask yourself why a stranger would want to give you money THEY found? (This is similar to the Nigerian Scam emails.
The two people pictured were involved in two separate “pigeon drop” incidents, police said.
A pigeon drop is a “a confidence game or sleight-of-hand swindle whereby cash is extracted from the victim as collateral for a supposed share in a large sum of discovered money, dishonest profits, or gambling winnings, which in fact are nonexistent,” according to dictionary.com.
Anyone with information about their identities is asked to call the South Euclid Police Department at 216-381-1234.
